Rhodochrosite, Fluorite on Quartz

This lovely miniature has unique aesthetics and contrasts! It features a rather equant, doubly-terminated, rhodochrosite crystal measuring 2.3 cm in length that is aesthetically emplaced on glassy and gemmy crystallized quartz matrix. The rhodo is lustrous and translucent, with a super cherry-red color. It is framed by several lustrous and translucent, deep purple fluorite crystals, to 6 mm across that is a highly unusual association. Few miniatures (large miniature!) of such a style were ever found, and this is just a piece that stands out from the crowd. MUCH better in person, by the way...A great combo piece and frankly memorable, when most SHM Rhodochrosite miniatures are simply not. Ex. Dr. W.S. Logan Collection.
