Schorl Tourmaline with natural bend
Here is a super unusual Schorl Tourmaline crystal displaying a natural growth bend (often called a tectonic bend)! This compound Schorl crystal consists of three, strongly striated main crystals in parallel growth along with dozens of fine, Tourmaline needles growing as a lattice work in between the larger crystals for wonderful effect. From the bottom, the Schorls are essentially straight and parallel and then toward the top they start to bend with the one in the middle ever so slightly, the one to the left a little more and then the crystal to the right the curvature is dramatic at the top! All of them are heavily striated and glossy black. There must be hundreds of fine Tourmaline needles forming a network in between the larger crystals, with some on the larger crystals, especially on the backside. These finer Tourmalines are thin enough that they are translucent and display a brown-black color. A very unique piece from Lava Ze Pedra in the Golconda district. Note that this carries a personal collection label also from the late dealer Luis Menezes.
