This is a large, complexly formed Ruby crystal from Mogok, Burma that is extremely sculpturally artistic. It is rare to see etched Ruby crystals and this one shows complex etching patterns that draw the eye, preferential to zones that are perpendicular to its length (c-axis). It has a simple overall shape, and yet subtle details at every point you look The color of the piece is varied from translucent rich pink to transparent to translucent hot pink-red. And, it also has a wet luster to it characteristic of the best surface quality of Mogok rubies, and really unique to them compared to ruby of other localities. This largest crystal in the "stack" measures over an inch across. Looking down the long dimension (c-axis) an overall hexagonal shape is evident and there is actually what could be interpreted as several Ruby crystals in parallel arrangement to the big central one. This beauty has a mass of 41 grams and comes with a custom labeled acrylic base from display in the personal Burma collection of the previous owner. Ex. William " Burma Bill" Larson collection, the largest and most well known systematic collection of Burma minerals assembled over 40 years and dozens of trips there. This is a spectacular miniature specimen from the world's greatest ruby deposit, that glows with color on a shelf and simply does not look like all the others.
