A "windowpane" of hexagonal gem apatite perches on a natural pedestal on this ex-Smale piece: This lovely miniature features a color zoned, glassy and gemmy, fluorapatite crystal, measuring 2.5 cm in length. It is ridiculously perched on the side of a colorless quartz crystal, meauring 5 cm in length. The color of the fluorapatite crystal is a beautiful, light green with darker green color zoning near the crystal edges. The top of the quartz crystal is covered by a little flat flowery growth of muscovite, which also frames the bases of both crystals with a drapery of small crystals. An exquisite specimen, from the Smale collection. He told me that he obtained many specimens in the heyday of the mine, in the 1970s and 1980s, from dealer Rene Dulon.
