The Star of the Congo Mine has produced a variety of beautiful secondary copper minerals over the years and this is an astonishing primary Malachite piece! The terminations of numerous, scintillating, deep emerald green Malachite crystals prevail at the top of this elongate, mounded crystal group. Dozens of nearly 1 cm across crystals displaying triangular or diamond-shaped outlines form the top of the rounded vibrant green aggregates. These Malachite crystals overgrow an earlier generation of Malachite as well as some bright blue to powder blue Chrysocolla. A noteworthy and captivating primary Malachite specimen. Why do we keep calling it "primary," one might ask? The most common large malachite crystals for collectors are actually pseudomorph replacements after azurite, and not truly original (primary origin) malachite crystals. This style, this find, presents malachite that formed its own crystal habit, without needing to transition through azurite first. A beautiful, large, complete all around specimen of this more rare style of crystallization.
