The Wutong mine in China produced this finely sculptural, beautifully balanced specimen of red-pink Rhodochrosite crystals sitting atop pale green Fluorite with Quartz. This dates back at least a decade, possibly to the early 2000s. Such a style is VERY RARE with associated, and good, fluorite. This looks like a rose flower, coming out of the green background! A trio of saturated pink, disk-shaped Rhodochrosite crystals with razor-sharp edges are prominently displayed with one vertically oriented and two trailing off at a shallow angle and there is a fourth crystal on the backside at the top and a few smaller, incomplete crystals. The rhodos are set on a starkly contrasting framework dominated pale, sea-green, complex Fluorite crystals, milky needle Quartz and patches of tiny, pale pink Manganoan Calcite crystals. The composition of this piece is outstanding and the three Rhodochrosite crystals have no damage; and neither does the Fluorite and Quartz. This lovely piece is accompanied by a custom engraved acrylic base for display. There are others, but this has a special elegance and stands out. It is certainly one of the best in size class, and they are simply unavailable on the market today. From the collection of Dr Steve Smale.
