This complex, small-cabinet piece from the Sounion #6 Mine in Lavrion showcases at least 4 copper minerals (Smithsonite, Aurichalcite, Malachite, Azurite) in association for a pretty piece that just has subtle complexity all over. Specimens from here are endlessly fascinating with their common pseudomorphs, variations on species, and unusual combinations. Most prominent are the two clusters of translucent white Calcite that catch the eye before you start to notice the details in all the copper species. These create a dramatic contrast with all that is below, which includes beautiful, gemmy-to-translucent, vivid-green Smithsonite, a rich population of radial Aurichalcite spheres, and the deep green Malachites after Azurite. Collected in 2020, this is an excellent example of quality and aesthetics for these rather singular specimens.
