The ArkenstoneFeatured
A classic, very showy combination specimen from the famous mines at Concepcion del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico. A large, two-toned, velvety malachite botryoid (rounded growth) measuring 3.5 cm across sits right in the center of a nest of dark, encrusted, smoky quartz crystals that dominate the periphery of this very three-dimensional piece. The malachite botryoid is a rich green with a glistening surface accented by small, irregular patches of blue-green chrysocolla for nice contrast. The quartz crystals are deceiving in that they resemble dark smoky quartz crystals from a distance, however, close inspection reveals them to be clear to pale smoky crystals that have been coated by a thin, almost black manganese oxide crust in their entirety. The bottom of the piece and areas around the periphery reveal this deception. Ex. Eric Asselborn collection with label.
