Brazilianite of this quality and specific color and luster ONLY came out of a few small finds in the old days of Brazilian gem mining; Peter Bancroft documented mining them in the 1940s, and in fact sent the first batch to the USA in that time. Matrix brazilianite specimens, like this, from the original find in the 1940s, are fairly uncommon. This specimen features gemmy crystals intertwined upon a bit of albite matrix. Several of the glassy and gemmy brazilianite crystals reach 3.5 cm in length. At least two crystals are doubly-terminated although one large crystal has a damaged bottom (which I would point away from the front field of view). They have the wonderful color unique to this old find! Although nearly complete all around, there are a few minor rough contacts where it grew against matrix, on the edges. The piece is nearly complete floater, all around. You seldom see for such a large Brazilianite, from the type locality and first finds.
