Here is an impressive, glassy, polychrome Tourmaline crystal from the gem pegmatites of Dara-e-Pech in Afghanistan with an unusually fine termination. This slender, tall, polychrome tourmaline (specifically Elbaite) is composed of two prominent and several subtle Tourmalines in ever so slightly divergent growth. The piece measures almost four inches in length and is gemmy to translucent for much of its length and displays gemmy terminations on all of the component crystals. It is horizontally zoned and starts with a translucent, rich pink for the bottom 2 cm (jacketed by green) and transitions to a discontinuous, turbid to gemmy, bright green, 6 cm central area with a gem pink termination. It has a glassy to almost silky luster due to the striations and its slightly divergent character giving it a larger presence on a shelf than the size might otherwise indicate. This beauty has a mass of 40 grams.
