Hematite from this one amazing pocket, found around 2010, has set the standard for the species. It is simply that much better than so many Hematites from other localities, in many ways. The high luster of the platy crystal and its sharp form is phenomenal, as is the jet-black color. The prominent, almost pseudohexagonal crystal face is incredibly brilliant and mirror-like. Like most crystals from the pocket, this piece has a halo of small Hausmannite crystals around the edges, and these little Hausmannite clusters spill over the back of the piece and completely cover the backside of the Hematite with sparkly, pseudo-octahedral crystals that accent the shape and luster all the more. This particular crystal is a fine toenail and one of the few that are not already tied up in the top private collections. Ex. Charlie Key collection.
