From a surprisingly unusual pocket found about 2016-17, this is a really cute specimen comprised of two generations of malachite. The velvety malachite balls are formed atop deeper evergreen-colored crystals of primary malachite. For that matter, both growths are primary malachite, meaning they form on their own, and not as replacements of prior azurite as is so typical of crystallized malachite. The contrasts are amazing and beautiful, as it is both in color and texture. This was a unique small pocket, to my knowledge, and this was one of the better specimens we acquired at the time it came out (note they are so unusual that they were sold in Congo as, and labelled as, malachite on libethenite). An unusual malachite-on-malachite style from a mine and district that has produced tonnage over decades, but this is unique.
