Fine and attractive toenail (large thumbnail or small miniature) cluster from the well-known Peruvian locality of Uchucchacua. These gemmy to translucent crystals have a rich, cherry-red color, very good form, and a slightly silky luster. There is only the smallest amout of contact on the back of the termination, with the rest of the specimen in excellent condition. The largest crystal is complex and the full 3.2 cm long. The gemminess would show up even better except that the crystal are backed by a thin layer of gossan matrix. Nonetheless, this is a very good, representative Rhodo specimen from the Uchucchacua Mine, with good aesthetics and history. Formerly in the collection of Jim Addison and W.S. Logan (and includes one of his superb labels). A large crystal for the locale!
