A shocking purple crystal, 3 x 2.7 x 2 cm, sits perched nicely on contrasting quartz matrix. This is one of those so-called "tanzanite fluorites" that were being labelled as such in China, for the hot colors. However, this is older material, and most more recent finds have such crystals on a dark or boring matrix. Quartz background, I think, is better because of the association with contrasting crystals to make the purple fluorite shape leap out to the eyes. This is a gorgeous, complete crystal with stunning deep grape-juice color, which we bought ourselves in China some years ago.
