Pargasite in Marble
A very colorful and uncommon member of the amphibole group, This lustrous and translucent, emerald green pargasite crystal, measuring 5 cm in length, is partially encased in a white, marble matrix. The termination of the pargasite clearly exhibits hopper growth and it is remarkably complete, unlike most others. This is a relatively large, fine crystal for the species, showing none of the tectonic or blast-induced cracking seen in most specimens. An old piece, which I first had and sold over a decade ago, in larger form (I have trimmed it down and taken a huge risk to expose the top termination from where it was embedded in the marble!)
