Yellow Cadmian Smithsonite embellishes the surface of white, scalenohedral Calcite crystals on this alluring piece from Weinan, China. The Cadmian Smithsonite is a glistening and distinct yellow-green layer covering much of the underlying Calcite and the two provide great contrast! A cluster of several, lustrous, 1cm or less Quartz crystals grace one corner of the piece and are highlighted by the tiny Cadmian Smithsonite crystals at their base. The underlying calcite fluoresces, as a bonus. This piece is atypical compared to earlier finds of Smithsonite at this locality that had the ultimate botryoidal texture and yellow color. We purchased only one good lot of this material in China.
