For a species still considered to be rare, this enormous, beautifully crystallized specimen of londonite is an important treasure. The cesium-rich analog of rhodizite, it is somewhat lustrous and translucent along with exhibiting a garnet-like form and a unique yellow color. At 4.5 cm tip to tip horizontally, this is certainly one of the largest crystals of its kind, barring a very few exceptions in museums (and certainly in this size of specimen). It is complete all around, and has superb geometric symmetry to it. Named after Dr. David London, noted mineralogy professor at The University of Oklahoma; and formerly in the collection of mineralogist and collector Dr. Federico Pezzotta, curator of the Museum of Milan and an advisor to the government of Madagascar on mineral mining and exports. He brought this out of the country himself, and it was in his collection a number of years. Specimens like this have not been found since the mid-2000s.
