Description
A superb, intricately crystallized cluster of the classic, bladed Chalcocite crystals from the Levant Mine that once made Cornwall the world's best locality for the species, in the early to mid 1800s. Many collectors till consider Cornish chalcocites to be, almost without exception, the best of species in general. Several, distinct, 1 to 2.5 cm, bladed and striated metallic crystals displaying a blue to green patina are loosely clustered showing off their fine crystallinity and also the twinning in the largest crystal! There are tiny patches of Malachite locally that provide a touch of contrast locally. Rare today in any quality. Ex. Shields Flynn collection. He had this jammed diagonally in a thumbnail box as a "box buster" thumbnail in his notable suite of English thumbnails (in case you are wondering why he had it, when he was known for thumbnails). That was a fudge...However, it is more properly displayed vertically as a miniature.
