The Neudorf Galena-Siderite combination is, in my mind, one of the more alluring pairs in the mineral world's old European classics. This outstanding small cabinet has a half-dozen significant, intergrown Galena crystals, several of which are over 3 cm across. These rest on, or are adjoined by, super-lustrous Siderite rhombs that are to approx. 7 mm on edge. The galenas are in excellent shape, especially considering the piece is likely 150-180 years old, and is nearly complete except for some very small edge wear. There is one depression in the middle of the cluster which looks like a contact point where a siderite might have once been, but has come cleanly off. The matrix is composed of a gemmy, sharp quartz crystals that look like a sparkly snow field (and this stark contrast of color and luster and form is what really makes these combos stand out!). Hundreds of years after being mined, specimens are so scarce as to be almost unavailable. You almost never see a good one for sale! This classic has very fine aesthetics as is highly desirable.
