A superb example of the classic 1980s-early 1990s "ice cube fluorites" from Dalnegorsk, now the stuff of legends among fluorite collectors for their icy clarity and textbook crystal perfection. Herb Obodda travelled to Russia himself on many occasions and was one of the earliest to deal in such things. As with his Afghani and Pakistani suites of minerals, he kept souvenirs of his travels in the form of exquisite miniatures, small cabinets, and thumbnails as subcollections. We purchased his collection in 2008 and this piece only recently was sent to lab for cleaning and preparation (after being lost for a decade in my warehouse!). It features sharp crystals to 3.5 cm in unusually pristine condition with excellent overall aesthetics and has to be one of the better examples in size class. Herb Obodda's collection, piece for piece among over 1000 specimens, was outstanding with each piece exemplifying a place and a find - either historic or by association with his travels. Intense fluorescence is a bonus.
