Fluorite on Quartz

This is a spectacularly transparent and nicely zoned Fluorite from the Piaotang tin-tungsten mine in China. A single, large, sharply formed Fluorite crystal measuring 4 x 3 x 2.9 cm is the centerpiece of this stunning specimen with its transparent outer zones and its translucent interior. Although slightly cloudy in the center, one can still discern the underlying crystalline matrix and the medium blue interior with a discontinuous purple phantom and a subsequent, completely transparent medium blue zone followed by a medium purple outer zone right to the edge. Subtle criss-crossing veils are present in the intermediate area. Edges of the crystal are crisp and faces have excellent luster. The crystal is complete ONLY with the exception of the two rear corners that are slightly clipped, and out of sight from the display front. The color distribution and internal "texture" results in a sublime overall effect in this gem Fluorite! The Fluorite cube is perched aesthetically on a matrix consisting of a single Quartz crystal, fine-grained white Muscovite and tiny pale purple Fluorite cubes. Old material, from the Steve Smale collection.The color is really quite special. It is easy to see these get mislabelled and presented as Yaogangxian material, by the way, and so many are simply unaware of this other location which produces much less material, although of very fine quality.
