Gormanite is a rare iron-magnesium-aluminum phosphate seldom found in anything you would call "aesthetic specimens" and Linopolis, Brazil (and the Rapid Creek in the Yukon for smaller samples) have produced the best specimens of this rare phosphate mineral. Multiple clusters composed of radiating sprays of green Gormanite display prominently on this small cabinet piece, all nicely contrasted by the bright white Albite and a little orange-brown Goethite association. The Gormanite is composed of dozens of densely packed, divergent sprays of acicular crystal in adjoining bundles with each Gormanite bundle averaging about 1 cm across. The subhedral, white Albite provides perfect contrast and there is a stringer of what appears to be Goethite (or an oxidized iron-bearing phosphate) running between some of the Gormanite sheaves in places for added color. The backside reveals a portion of a flattened, glassy, transparent, lightly smoky Quartz crystal. This is an exceptional piece of this material for the species from discoveries at Linopolis in 2001. Very rich specimen, among the best we have seen for sale, and strangely aesthetic as well (as typical of the taste of this multigenerational family of fine collectors!)
