Pyrrhotite with Fluorite and Muscovite
This is a really aesthetic Pyrrhotite combination specimen from new finds at these remote Inner Mongolian mines in China in 2020-21, which produced specimens that are some of the best of species now known. This bright and elegant small cabinet piece consists of an aesthetic arrangement of metallic bronze Pyrrhotite combined with purple Fluorite to produce an attractive combination specimen. We have never seen pyrrhotite with purple fluorite before! Nearly two dozen well-formed hexagonal plates of Pyrrhotite from a few millimeters to 3.2 cm across are randomly clustered and a few are highlighted by a preferential coating of very fine-grained, snow-white Muscovite on one or both of the broad hexagonal faces, but not the thin prism faces. A cluster of medium to dark purple translucent to transparent purple Fluorite cubes from 3 mm to 1.3 cm accent the right rear of the piece and provide good balance and composition -- a rare association. This attractive piece sits fine on its own. Note that these first came out labelled as Huanggang Mines, for a few years, until this later purple pocket came out. We and others sold previous finds without the purple as Huanggang. It turns out they are actually from another polymetallic deposit, some hours distant: Weilasituo Mine, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China
