This is a gorgeous Quartz faden that really looks more like a big, super lustrous Fluorapophyllite on casual inspection! The piece consists of two almost completely intergrown glassy Quartz crystals that share a distinct, string-like structure or "faden" internally that runs right down the center of them from point to point. The term faden derives from German, meaning "thread," referring in minerals to the bizarre growth artifact in some Alpine type quartz crystals, from forming in a certain environment. The faden line looks like a fuzzy thread running through the water-clear crystals. The overall shape of this piece looks like a pseudotetragonal crystal, but it's only the result of the two Quartz crystals being complexly intergrown and they do have a square outline overall at the top! This is a complete and uncontacted floater, with glassy faces and razor-sharp edges. It is a superb specimen of its kind, really unique among many! Herb Obodda Fine Mineral collection
