Doc Neely was THE collector of Elmwood material in his lifetime, and nobody else ever came close for overall breadth, quality, and access. He was a doctor in the area not far from the mine and even took care of many miners and their families. Steve had many sub-collections over the years, but at one time after he sold his major worldwide minerals in the late 1990s, he really focus and built a superb collection of nearly 400 Elmwood small cabinet pieces for about a decade, before selling it off to focus on keeping a smaller number of very much larger specimens. From that collection, this is a sharp "corner" of Elmwood fluorite, formed in a very weird multi staged process that we do not go into here - but which fluorite collectors are familiar with in general. Short version - in the end, the original corners of the cube became these loose floaters of gem corners on stalks; and those often are found only as loose singles. Here is a matrix example, with the corner solidly anchored in a snowball of baryte, with stunning contrast of the opaque white baryte to the gemmy fluorite. Accent of sphalerite, in little red crystals on the fluorite, is a welcome and unusual contrast. Pristine, complete, and beautiful! Dr. Stephen Neely #290, then to the Scott Kleine "corners" collection which we purchased.
