Fluorite epimorph after Celestine
Musquiz is an interesting older locality in Mexico that is justifiably famous for amazing celestine, and fluorite on celestine specimens, starting from the 1960s. The classic specimens from here feature pastel lavender-colored, gem fluorites with intricate surface patterning (as you see here!), perched on the side of a celestine crystal. However, this piece is a bit unique, in that the fluorites seem to have wrapped around the celestine like a cast, forming a loop (as if you close your left thumb to join your fingers, with the open space in the middle, making for a hollow circlet of gem fluorites, to 2.5 cm, that surround a chevron-shaped empty space where the celestine used to be. Whether it dissolved away or broke away, who knows. This is a floater, complete all around, and unique in our experience. Like most of the specimens in this private dealer collection, this was a carefully chosen small cabinet specimen selected by a collector on the ground in Mexico, at the time that they were contemporary over the last 30-40 years. The individual cubes look like transparent Borg ships from Star Trek, very complexly surfaced with minute details visible in person.
