Scheelite from the Yaogangxian Mine is not uncommon per se, but sharp and colorful crystals like this are the exception. This is a sharply formed Scheelite with well defined crystal faces and distinct edges and it exhibits distinguishable growth hillocks on the main face that look like an artist has added them at the culmination of his or her efforts for subtle and beautiful effect! The crystal is a translucent, interesting hue of yellow-amber with purplish accents along the edges and in the center of the main face for wonderful highlighting. Off to one side is a partial, clear Quartz crystal adorned with some minor, platy, small Calcite crystals. This nice Scheelite is nearly complete with contacting (not a break or damage) on the bottom where it was attached to the matrix in the pocket. It is a stunning miniature, and a rare quality, color, and style for this important and prominent mine that many of us regard as the single most important mineral locality in China over decades.
