Malachite pseudo. after Azurite
Malachite pseudomorphs after Azurite are Tsumeb classics, and this excellent small cabinet sized specimen upholds the tradition and proves why. The Malachite crystals are very sharp in their fidelity of replacement of the original azurites, and the surface shows an amazing iridescence in multiple patterns that is striking and attractive, and almost unique to Tsumeb in this kind of surface texture for malachite. n person, it is more visible and complex as the human eye catches the glimmers and subtleties better than the camera lens. For those who have seen this style before, you know what I mean! The major bladed crystals are all at least 3.5 cm tall, and the overall aesthetics and quality are top notch. It is complete all around and the best shade of green - not too dark nor too lightly colored. Even better in person, this is a significant old Tsumeb specimen, almost surely from the old mining of the first or second oxide zones here and certainly before the 1960s "modern era" of mining began. Featured in the book Collecting Classics: The Legacy of Kay Robertson (Mineralogical Record, May 2025) on page 55.
