This is an attractive specimen of the rare hydrous calcium silicate Suolunite from THE find for the species, and of top color. This is a very pretty display piece composed of a translucent, intergrown, blue-gray crystalline cluster. The luster is good and silky, and the color is very easy on the eyes. Charlie Key was able to secure the majority of this famous pocket, and he actually gifted this specimen to Art. Suolunite is a rare hydrated calcium silicate known from only a few worldwide localities. This particular botryoidal specimen is lustrous with a pastel purple color. It comes from ONE single pocket that was found here, an aberration apparently. The pocket was sold as purple prehnite to dealer Charlie Key, who in turn sold the whole lot to the Royal Ontario Museum. Any specimens such as this were deaccessioned from the museum in an exchange through dealer Rod and Helen Tyson, back in the late 1990s-I know, because I got many at the time but it has been a decade or more since. As a side note, I have had small clean gems cut out of similar specimens before.
