A very fine, classic Japan Law twinned Smoky Quartz from New Mexico, rarely seen on matrix! The twin measures 2.6 x 2.2 x 0.6cm and has a flat, "squarish" shape unlike any normal Quartz crystal, as the crystal is angled on the matrix. It's glassy luster and smoky hue are rare for a Japan law twin from a USA locality, and these are classics! The Smoky Quartz crystal has beveled edges, a distinct twin plane that runs across the crystal with subtle but distinct striations that emanate from it in a V-shaped pattern of chevrons. Patches of white, altered Feldspar are present locally and add contrast. A very unusual and very attractive Smoky Quartz twin from the well known Smoky Quartz occurrence in Lincoln County, New Mexico. Ex. Francesco Bedogne collection with label. He acquired this in 1980 from a previous collection, so it is an older example.
