This is a remarkable corundum variety sapphire crystal for the fact that it does not have color. Sri Lanka is famous for sapphires, but most are found in shades of pale blue to gray, and treated to become hot blue colors, and later sold for more value even if heated. While we often see gray to pale blue crystals for sale, and those often with poor luster, this is something different - a glassy, textbook hexagonal crystal WITHOUT color. It is a clear crystal with a few yellowish-brown slight inclusions (probably iron staining). If heated, it would perhaps turn an intense blue in the zones not included, and is 30.2 carats. Luckily, it was left as a natural crystal. As a "clear sapphire" it is somewhat rare and fun, because it really stands out. Alex stated in his catalog: “Super, GEM/gemmy very sharp, soft blue color, well-formed, doubly-terminated, 'floater'." Note this has not been "rolled" and would have come from a hard rock deposit, not a stream alluvial deposit, as most Sri Lankan corundums - hence the unusual luster and sharpness which are otherwise quite rare.
