Exceptional plate of rich red, botryoidal crystals of Rhodochrosite from the Foote Mine in North Carolina. The Rhodochrosite is in very good condition, with good translucence and luster. Rhodos from North Carolina are quite rare, and I have not seen Rhodochrosite in this rich and robust form or with this quality from the Foote Mine before. Everything else I have seen was much smaller, paler, and uglier. This was the personal "keeper" of the last mine engineer, Jack Eaker, whose collection was recently brought to market. It is attractive and, in my experience, unique. An important USA thumbnail specimen.
