Malachite with Quartz

A drusy Quartz-coated Malachite ball perched atop pale blue matrix also covered with a druze of sparkling Quartz is a fine example of this material from the famous Bagdad Mine in Arizona. The bottom matrix of this specimen displays fascinating botryoidal layering with consisting of concentric but discontinuous, thin layers of Goethite, Chrysocolla, and Malachite culminating in beautiful, thin bands of blue-tinted drusy Quartz on the display side! The Quartz-coated Malachite ball measures 2cm across and a portion of the ball sustained damage, now providing a window into the radiating Malachite crystals. There is a remnant of a formerly attached Malachite ball adjacent to the intact one and there is contacting around the periphery of the piece. Like other terrific porphyry copper mines, the “supergene” zone of this deposit produced a diversity of fantastic secondary copper minerals - in the past, and now long mined out. This piece is both intriguing and super cute, an especially fun addition if you're interested in paragenesis! ex. Pat Hendrick collection and Bruce Murphy collections, an old USA classic.
