This is a single, floater, doubly-terminated crystal of rutilated quartz that is so richly included by rutile it looks as if there is more rutile than quartz, at first glance. Large rutilated quartzes are rare, and such a pristine, big single like this, doubly terminated no less, is something I would not expect to find. The color in this crystal, from a new locality to me, is subtly different from the more common rutilated quartz we see from other famous Brazilian locales. It is more amber-hued, with a slight tinge of reddish or burnt color to it. Overall, a very beautiful quartz specimen, and highly unusual. The exact location is Caicaratiba.
