This is a huge specimen of classic, old-time covellite from the mid-1900s heyday here at Summitville. The specimen weighs 2 kilograms and is 7 inches in length. Although the edges are contacted where plate-like crystals broke from the lamellar grip of the surrounding mass, the result is a play of colors on the exposed crystal faces that shows purples and reds by reflection. The upper surface has duller color, because they are natural terminations and so not as lustrous as the contacted sides. This is a major, historic, US specimen. Ex. George Elling Collection.
