Reputed to be a barren and forbidding place to collect (I will take people's word for this one), Prince of Wales Island is nonetheless one of the world's premier Epidote localities. Epidote crystals from here tend to be a deep green color with usually excellent luster, and this fine thumbnail upholds that lineage nicely. The main, pillow-shaped crystal is actually doubly-terminated, and the beveled edges can be stepped and complex. There are flashes of the deep green color under good light, and the form, luster, as well as the gemmy Quartz crystals, add to the quality of the piece. There is a contact, as well as one chipped corner, but I find that these blemishes detract little from the overall aesthetics of this piece, especially on this scale.
