Uncommon in fine quality specimens, this complex alumosilicate is one of the more obscure members of the Cancrinite group,. Typically, Afghanite crystals, no matter how saturated the color may be, are opaque. This crystal is not only exceptionally large at 6.2 cm, but it is partially translucent. The color is a lovely Sapphire blue color which contrasts very nicely with the white Calcite matrix. The crystal has good luster, a fine termination, and it is SHARP for the species. Overall, a very impressive, aesthetic Afghanite with balance and size importance going for it. From the Obodda collection.
