Fluorite, Rhodochrosite
A bizarre Sweet Home specimen with sharp 1-cm fluorite crystals that have oriented white zoning to them. I have heard some people label these as fluorite altering to quartz, but I have no proof of this and suspect instead it is rather included or colorless fluorite, deposited in some unusual direction-oriented effect. Nevertheless, the result is really shockingly stark phantoms within the fluorite crystals. Note the fluorites are gem clear, internally, and have a lavender color. The largest fluorite sits on top of a very gemmy 1-cm rhodochrosite rhomb, of superb color and luster. Minor quartz is in association, as is tetrahedrite. Somebody carved the matrix very close to the crystals with a saw to get the pocket out of the big rock it was probably stuck in, and so saw marks remain on the edges. From the Fluorite Raise. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
