Fluorite
Unknown Owner
This is an unusually large and significant specimen from a very short-lived mining operation in a very inhospitable part of the Sahara Desert. In fact, the two guys who were mining these eventually gave up, because they could only find specimens few at a time, through great labor in the horrible heat or cold (depending on the season), and could not find rich pockets. So, there are very few of these out there. They are very distinctive fluorites, with a gorgeous silky luster, glowing purple transparency, and flattened rectangular crystals. There are just a few small cleaves here, but none too visually detracting and in any case quite forgivable considering the size and rarity. 9 x 7 x 6 cm
