This is a significant crystal of gemmy, intensely saturated red beryl or "red emerald," found only in Utah in the past. The color is caused by manganese in parts per million. These are astonishingly rare in the world, and no more are mined today of any significance. Red beryls of size above 1 cm, with rich color and no cracking, are simply nearly impossible to find anymore. This small miniature, or "toenail" sized specimen, is imposing, dramatic, and balanced. It has the rich color you want most in such a crystal and stands out on a shelf with more impact than such things normally have. The major crystal is 2.1 x 1.2 x 1 cm, and nearly complete (only a small contact on one back edge). it is natural and without repairs or restoration, as is sadly common for the material.
