Smoky Quartz on Pyrite
Description
I have never seen another specimen like this! It is an amazingly aesthetic example of smoky quartz, perched perfectly on a crystallized pyrite matrix. The smoky is perfect on both tips! It is lustrous, gemmy, balanced, symmetrical. The piece came to me in large size and we took a huge risk to trim it down to the balanced aesthetic look you see here...frankly, I was advised not to risk the trim saw on it. But it worked, and the piece is not repaired as a result...I probably got lucky. So far as I know, this was a one-off, single piece. I have not seen others even remotely close to this caliber, and I rank it highly both as a quartz, and as a Peruvian specimen in general. Joe Budd Photos.
