From the notable Wein Collection in Stuttgart, which was dispersed 2 years ago, a large limonitic matrix richly covered with small, blocky crystals of malachite with a velvety surface, intermixed with crystals of deep blue azurite. There are no transitional pseudomorphing crystals here, so the malachite is primary and not pseudomorphed from azurite. What makes this specimen particularly pretty is that the matrix shows between the groups of crystals, which makes it far more attractive than if they had completely covered the matrix; the contrast with the rust-colored matrix is striking and beautiful.
