The rarest form of amazonite crystals from this classic district are these so-called striped amazonites. I do not know what makes the strange, startlingly white color appear only on certain oriented faces of the crystals, but this is how they come and mother nature does it somehow. I was once told that only about 1 of 1000 amazonites have this effect. Specimens that have the white stripes and the deepest robin's-egg blue color, such as this piece, are the most desired. This piece has the top color, and so the contrast is all the more striking. Complete on the front and display face sides, it is a dramatic small cabinet. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
