Fluorite on Galena, with Sphalerite and Chalcopyrite
Sculptural and choice, this combination piece was collected at the Denton Mine in 1984. The Galena cubes, modified by the octahedron, are well-formed, have a good metallic luster, and reach up to 2.1 cm on edge. Growing on the Galenas are gemmy to translucent purple Fluorites, decorated with a dusting of micro Chalcopyrite crystals. To add even more interest to this fine southern Illinois piece, there is a gemmy Ruby Jack Sphalerite smack in the middle, glowing like a beacon. #10,866 in Kay's collection, she acquired in 1986 from North Star Minerals, one of the premier dealers for southern Illinois material. A very aesthetic galena specimen from a fluorite-mining district in which actual galenas are very uncommon in association with fluorite.
