An old-time, fine specimen of solid covellite blades from the historic Butte District. This is very rich copper ore and consists of a solid mass of iridescent peacock-blue and magenta covellite blades. I recently obtained this piece in a trade from a European collector, who stated this piece dates to the circa 1870s because of where he got it from (an old museum collection in Europe) - though this cannot be proven. This is during the primary silver production years and very early production of copper ores, for which the district is famous.
