Deep purple apatites of this color would be considered exceptional for Maine (and for any USA or worldwide locale, for that matter), but this is a sharp and large crystal perched in matrix, so it makes for a competitive level thumbnail on the basis of both quality AND locality. The large crystal is nearly 2 cm, actually, although part of that grows down into the matrix (you can see on backside). I would display it on one of the other angles, showing about 1.25 cm of crystal edge as shown. It is balanced, colorful, and important for the locality.
