This highly etched 'floater' of Fluorite from the Denton Mine is exemplary on several levels. First of all, this cluster is composed of only three Fluorite crystals, the largest of which extends the full 15.6 cm, which is an amazing size for a Fluorite from here in and of itself. Second, the Fluorites appear to be gemmy through and through - more so in person, even. Third, but not last, the natural solution effects in the pocket created an undulating surface that is quite attractive and unusual, and actually allows the finely stepped growth of the Fluorite to express itself. I have never seen a fluorite like this beyond thumbnail sized, from Illinois! And from any locality, such "rounded" fluorite is rare. It should be noted that the tip of one of the lower knobs has been cleaved. but only at the bottom and facing down and to the backside. This is unfortunate but minor in context and it is otherwise a "floater" with no contact points at all. As a bonus to this oddity, there are even a few little clusters of mm-size Galenas nestled together on the Fluorite that add a nice touch. Mined in 1988. RCL0169. Custom base included. THIS fluorite will stand out in any collection - I have never seen the like.
