Sharp sphalerite crystals to 2 cm are nothing unusual for the famous Elmwood mine, but crystals are seldom nicely isolated on the dolomite matrix. This piece has crystals to 2 cm, of such luster and gemminess, and isolated on matrix, so that it really stands out overall as a collectible miniature compared to so many that are "reference style" examples. The crystals have a red glow at edges when backlit: what the miners called 'ruby zinc' at the time. It is aesthetic, 360 degrees a complete all around. It is just better, in the size range, than most (and we have been watching these since the 1980s).
