Totally glassy and gemmy with a pleasing light bluish-green color, this sapphire crystal is sharply crystallized almost like a scalenohedron! It comes from a famous, ancient gem deposit that has been worked for centuries, if not millennia - but from which we have seen so very few specimens: is that because crystals are rare in the ground, or because they are simply cut for the efficiency of the gem market? In any case, we have never seen such a fine, gemmy, mainland Indian sapphire like this before, and it makes a dramatic gem thumbnail specimen. It also has some cutting rough inside (probably of value near to the specimen). This is from a single sharply crystallized pocket we were told was found in 2019, and we purchased through a friend in India by remote. We only saved two crystals from the pocket, this being the better and the rest being damaged or ill-formed. It is unique in our experience as a gem-facet-quality sapphire specimen from India, but it also would stand out from any locality (if such were found in Burma or Sri Lanka, it would still be a notable crystal).
