This is an interesting combo specimen featuring two of Broken Hill's most iconic mineral species. Perched aesthetically on massive galena are lustrous and slightly translucent, orangey red to wine red spessartine crystals, to 2 cm in length. Closely associated with the spessartine crystals is a single, lustrous and translucent, orangey red rhodonite crystal measuring 3.3 cm in length. This is possibly a unique combination in the world, and certainly rare at the mine. It is an aesthetic, surprising miniature specimen. Importantly, note that the galena and the garnet are pocket crystals, having grown freely into a pocket and not covered by massive calcite or galena. Therefore, they actually have luster! This is even more uncommonly seen here.
